Tundra Wildlife - Alaska

$10,225.00

There are few places that make you feel the scale of the wilderness quite like Alaska. Vast open landscapes, mountains, rivers and some of the most incredible wildlife encounters you could ever hope to experience.

This expedition is about spending meaningful time in the wilderness, observing and photographing Alaska's magnificent brown bears in their natural habitat. We will slow down, follow their behavior and allow nature to guide our experience. Along the way, we will explore light, composition and storytelling, learning to create photographs that capture not just what we saw, but what it felt like to be there..

7 Day Tundra Wildlife Expedition

Our itinerary will remain flexible throughout the expedition. Wildlife, weather and light will determine much of what we do, allowing us to spend more time with great encounters when they happen.

Day 1 — Arrival & Welcome

Arrive in Alaska and settle into our accommodation. We will meet as a group, get to know each other and go over our plans, safety guidelines, equipment and what to expect during our time in the wilderness.

Meals: Breakfast, field lunch & dinner
Overnight: Alaska accommodation

Days 2 to 6 — Exploring Bear Country

Our days will generally begin with an early breakfast before heading out into bear country.

Once we reach our locations, the bears will largely determine how we spend our time. We may spend hours observing and photographing them fishing, feeding, playing or simply going about their lives.

There will be some hiking and wading through shallow water involved as we explore the landscape and move between locations. We will always prioritize safety, respect the animals and maintain appropriate distances.

Lunches will generally be enjoyed in the field, allowing us to make the most of our time with the bears. We will return to our accommodation in the evenings for dinner, rest and conversations about our experiences and photographs.

Every day will be a little different, and that is part of what makes wildlife photography so exciting!

Meals: Breakfast, field lunch & dinner
Overnight: Alaska accommodation

Day 7 — Departure

After breakfast, we will pack up, say our goodbyes and begin our journeys home.

I hope you leave with some wonderful photographs, unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for these magnificent animals and the wilderness they call home.

Meals: Breakfast

Food & Accommodation

Comfortable accommodation and meals are taken care of throughout the expedition, including field lunches that allow us to stay close to wildlife rather than planning our days around restaurants. Dietary restrictions and allergies can be accommodated with advance notice.

What to Bring

Alaska's weather can change quickly, so being prepared for cold, wind and rain is important. Here are a few things I recommend bringing:

Waterproof jacket: A warm, waterproof outer layer that protects you from rain and wind.

Warm layers: Thermal clothing and insulating layers that can be adjusted throughout the day.

Hat: A warm hat or other suitable head covering to protect you from the cold and elements.

Gloves: Ideally waterproof or weather resistant, while still allowing you to comfortably operate your camera.

Waders & wading boots: We will be hiking and wading through water during the expedition. If you don't have your own waders and wading boots, we will provide them.

Comfortable footwear: Waterproof hiking boots with good traction for walking on uneven terrain when not wearing waders.

Camera equipment: Bring your preferred camera and lenses, along with spare batteries, memory cards and rain protection for your equipment.

Personal essentials: Sunglasses, sunscreen, personal medications and a small waterproof bag for your belongings.

Physical Activity & Safety

This expedition involves walking across uneven terrain, hiking and wading through water. You should be comfortable spending several hours outdoors in changing weather conditions.

We will move at a sensible pace and take breaks when needed, but a reasonable level of physical fitness and mobility is important.

Our priority will always be the safety of our guests and the well being of the wildlife. We will observe bears respectfully, follow established bear safety practices and never approach or disturb an animal for the sake of a photograph.

Come prepared for an adventure, with an open mind, a little patience and a whole lot of curiosity!
